JLS Hair Designs’ owner and founder, Jessica Lee Pray started in the hair industry 20 years ago. While reminiscing about her undying passion for styling hair, Jess recalls dyeing and cutting her mother’s hair at just 9 years old. “It’s always been a passion of mine,” she says. “To help women see their natural beauty and help them feel beautiful is so rewarding.”
After renting out chairs at various salons, Jess decided to open her own salon and in 2010, JLS Hair Design was born. But after the expiration of a 5-year lease, Jess was unsure of the future of JLS. This was until she was approached by another industry professional who presented her with the opportunity to restore an old firehouse in North Providence. Jess agreed to the venture and presented her proposal to the mayor who just knew Jess and the JLS family would be the perfect tenants for the restoration of the firehouse. The firehouse is now the current, ultra-trendy home of JLS Hair Design. Adorned with chandeliers and a Hollywood-glam vibe, the opening of JLS has been exciting for the North Providence community.

Accompanied by notable community figures like Mayor Charles Lombardi, Jess (along with JLS friends, family, and staff) officially welcomed JLS to North Providence in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday, March 26.
Jess is ecstatic about her new location and the opportunities JLS has to grow. She loves what she does and says that one of the most rewarding aspects of owning a business is the countless opportunities she has to teach her staff members valuable lessons so they can grow as both stylists and individuals.
Along with hair services, JLS Hair Design offers a variety of services ranging from makeup consultations to nail care. “I love it all but hair is definitely my forte; I’m a color specialist,” Jess says. How else does Jess see herself? “I consider myself the hair doctor,” she says with a smile.
